Ice Cold in Alex is a British adventure movie from 1958, filmed in Libya and set during WW II (1942 to be exact). But once I started reading I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day or two. The latter of which co-writes the screenplay with T.J. Morrison. The book is set just before el Alamein, when things looked grim for the Brits. A thousand square miles of blazing, pitiless desert, and a story so unusual, so gripping that it could spring only from life itself. From Tobruk to Alexandria... they had to make it... even if one of 'em was a traitor!. Keep track of everything you watch; tell your friends. The war and the desert landscapes form the backdrop, but this is in essence a character study where the characters are defined by their actions. It would be hard to find anyone who, having seen the film version of this book, doesn't find the film moving.
